The Tuscarawas County Fair large animal sale was held on Thursday, Sept. 20; the dairy product sale was on Friday, Sept. 21; and the small animal sale was on Saturday, Sept. 22.

“The total for all three sales was over $765,000. It’s just outstanding when you have pigs that are averaging $4.38 a pound and market is .22 cents a pound. It never ceases to amaze me,” said Steve Cronebaugh, fair board president. “Everything was well above market, and it just shows once again what our community thinks of our kids and our program. We can’t thank them enough.”

The total of all sales was $765,953.13. “We’re really appreciative that so many folks from the community, businesses and individuals, and groups all come together to support the kids' projects and the hard work that they put in over the months,” Kiersten Heckel of OSU Extension office said.

The total for the small animal sale was $67,930 and included the sale of 10 wooden cutting boards made by Dave Warther.

The wooden cutting boards were sold to Goodings Farm Market at $600, Beitzel’s Meats at $500, Dr. Steven Chismar at $500, Hursey Farms – Authorized Umbarger Feed Dealer at $500, M&M Equipment Service at $500, Tuscarawas County Township Association at $550, Boltz Family Farms at $575, Keith and Stephanie DeVault family at $550, Bob Zinkon family at $500, and Dan and Lorrie Lautzenheiser at $425.

The grand champion market goat exhibited by Cade Liggett was purchased by Sarchione Ford of Waynesburg for $2,100. The reserve champion market goat exhibited by Mackenzie Hursey was purchased by The New Company for $1,000.

The grand champion rabbit pen exhibited by Kaylee Dunlap was purchased by Jenns Custom Meat Processing for $450. The reserve champion rabbit pen shown by Lauren Rennicker was purchased by Beitzel’s Meats for $500.

The grand champion broilers exhibited by Grace Gingerich were purchased by TMK Bakersville & Valley Propane for $1,200. The reserve champion broilers exhibited by Jacqui Blose were purchased by Tango & Gatti for $800.

The grand champion turkey exhibited by Hannah Maxhimer was purchased by Tango & Gatti for $750. The reserve champion turkey exhibited by Cheyenne Peterman was purchased by Beitzel’s Meats for $550.

At the market livestock sale on Thursday evening, the grand champion lamb exhibited by Marshall Miller was purchased by Neiheisel Trucking for $20 per pound. The reserve champion lamb exhibited by Garrett Dinger was purchased by Leigh-Endsley Insurance Agency for $9.50 per pound.

The grand champion hog exhibited by Madison DeVault was purchased by Weaver Furniture for $11 per pound. The reserve champion hog exhibited by Emma Leggett was purchased by Sugar Valley Meats for $7.50 per pound.

The grand champion market steer exhibited by Jeffrey Murphy was purchased by Eleet Cryogenics Inc. for $7.50 per pound. The reserve champion market steer exhibited by Mackenzie Hursey was purchased by Sugar Valley Meats and Saltwell Western Store for $4 per pound.

The grand champion dairy steer exhibited by Mikayla Horn was purchased by Boyd’s Asphalt for $3.50 per pound. The reserve champion dairy steer exhibited by Brittany Finton was purchased by TMK Bakersville and Valley Propane for $3 per pound.

The total for the market livestock auction was $610,095.60.

At the dairy product sale, a total of $87,825 was raised. The top-earning six baskets of dairy products auctioned each represented a dairy breed. The winners were Holstein at $3,800, Kimble Company; Jersey at $4,000, Mako’s Market and Pharmacy; Brown Swiss at $4,000, Loveday Farms and Garver Trucking; Milking Shorthorn at $3,600, Heritage Country Store; Guernsey at $3,900, Gordon Milk Transport; and Ayreshire at $5,000, Gerber & Sons and Mike Yoder, dealer for Hubner Seed.
