Alley Cats Marketplace will welcome comedian Marty Drexler during the annual Art on the Alley event on Sunday, Oct. 18 from noon to 6 p.m. in downtown New Philadelphia.

Drexler will perform at 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the social area of Alley Cats Marketplace.

Drexler is a high school math teacher in New Philadelphia in his fifth year of teaching at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School and 23rd year overall. In his spare time he is a joke writer and performer of stand-up comedy.

Ever since being voted class clown his senior year of high school, Drexler has been jotting down ideas for punchlines and eventually set out to write a joke book. He successfully self-published "Almost Joke Book" (Vantage Press, 2009) and began preparing to try some of them on stage.

Since summer 2010 Drexler has been doing stand-up off and on at various bars and clubs in Northeast Ohio but mostly at Funny Stop Comedy Club, where he is currently a finalist in their co-feature contest.

In 2011 Drexler won an amateur comedian contest at the Funny Stop, and in February 2013 he made a live appearance on ABC's "The View" as a finalist in their search for America's funniest teacher.

Also in the line-up at Alley Cats Marketplace, which features 70 artisans, is a Grab & Go Art Craft at noon, Dover musician Sam Worst and his saxophone at 1 p.m. and the Tuscarawas River Band Duo at 3 p.m.

The Art on the Alley committee and Alley Cats Marketplace is abiding with the health department guidelines in taking social distancing precautions and guidelines by the State of Ohio.

The event is held in downtown New Philadelphia between Ashwood Lane and down First Drive to Allen Lane Southwest.

Art on the Alley highlights 45 artisans, musicians, food trucks and local businesses.
