Art on the Alley is a family-friendly event on Sunday, Oct. 18 from noon to 6 p.m. Art on the Alley will continue to be an event focused on art, live music, local downtown businesses and community and will include measures to create a safe environment as communities continue to navigate through COVID.

Guidelines will be set in place to encourage social distancing and mask wearing. Based on guidelines referenced from farmers’ markets and other arts events in recent months, the following guidelines were established for guests, vendors and volunteers that plan on attending Art on the Alley:

—Hand-washing stations and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the area; wash and sanitize as needed.

—Vendors and volunteers will wear masks, and it’s requested, following the governor’s orders, attendees wear a mask as well.

—There will be lanes set up to create a flow of traffic and vendors spaced out to encourage 6-foot social distancing.

—To protect the artists and other customers, it’s requested attendees ask vendors to show them any projects they’re interested in and allow vendors to handle their work before giving to attendees for purchase.

—Stay home for your safety and the safety of others if you have a fever greater than 100 F, a cough or shortness of breath.

While mask wearing is encouraged, there will be a spin to create a positive experience with masks. In light of Halloween coming up and the creative atmosphere of the arts, there will be a Mask-arade Contest to see who will show up with the most creative mask of the person’s own creation. Participants for the Mask-arade Contest can show up to enter the contest at the check-in table located at the corner of Ashwood Lane and First Drive Northwest. The winner will be chosen at 5 p.m.

You can expect a variety of artists to share and sell their work at Art on the Alley. There will be live music performances at the north stage and south stage. At Alley Cats Marketplace, a comedian, various actors and musicians will be inside Alley Cats in their social area throughout the day on Sunday. There also will be a variety of food trucks set up in the parking lot of Allen Lane Southwest.

Unable to attend Art on the Alley but would love to purchase and support work by local artists? Tune in to Art on the Alley’s Facebook and Instagram pages to see artists featured for the “Artist Spotlight” leading up to Oct. 18 and participate in the auction items from artists the day of the event.

What else can you anticipate for the weekend? The night before Art on the Alley on Saturday, Oct. 17, Music on the Square will be performing at the Art on the Alley main stage located beside Museum Acrylic Company at 160 First Drive NW in New Philadelphia.

Art on the Alley is sponsored by Alban Title, Alley Cats Marketplace, Cinzia LLC, Cleveland Clinic/Union Hospital, Daily Grind, Diversified Engineering, Everett Consulting Services LLC, The Ezekiel Project, Gutter Helmet by Harry Helmet, Museum Acrylic Co., New Philadelphia Business and Community Association, Tuscarawas Arts Partnership, and What’s Cooking Cafe.

The planning committee of Art on the Alley has been working diligently for months to plan October’s event to allow creativity to thrive while keeping safety in mind.
