Holmes Center for the Arts announced baton twirling will be a new class offered by Susie Chaney. It will begin Tuesdays in October.

Chaney has taught baton for over 25 years and has been the majorette advisor at West Holmes High School for the past four years. She hopes to bring back opportunities in baton to local students in the community.

This first semester will run 11 weeks, Oct. 1 through Dec. 10. Students must commit to a full semester of classes, but scholarships are available for students with financial need. These classes are open to students from all schools and home-school students too.

Class times are as follows: kindergarten to first grade from 5-5:45 p.m., grade 2-3 from 5:45-6:30 p.m., grade 4-5 from 6:30-7:15 p.m., and sixth grade and older from 7:15-8 p.m.

Private lessons also will be available for anyone that would like to compete as a soloist or tryout for majorette.
