The Little Theatre in New Philadelphia will open its production of “Legally Blonde” under the direction of Bart Herman on Friday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m.

First produced in 2007, “Legally Blonde” was nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Actress in a Musical and Best New Musical. The musical was based on the 2001 movie starring Reese Witherspoon as Elle Woods.

The musical follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles blonde stereotypes in pursuit of her dream of attending Harvard Law School and becoming an attorney.

“This show is action-packed and filled with memorable songs and dynamic dances,” Herman said. “It’s so much fun it should be illegal.”

Major roles in the show will be played by Chloe Hanenkrat as Elle Woods, Chester Boffo as Emmet Forrest, Missy Zickel as Paulette, Nathan Bond as Warner, Sarah Spies as Vivienne, Kaitlyn Dunlap as Brooke Wyndam, Don Irven as Professor Callahan, Sara Hohman as Margot, Rachel Ress as Serena, Josie Waugh as Pilar and Kettie Kneuss as Enid Hoops.

The large cast also includes several actors taking on multiple roles and many ensemble actors portraying the prisoners of the Boston Women’s Correctional Facility, UCLA student, Harvard Law students and courtroom spectators.

Herman also is choreographing the show and will be joined in the production by Amy Nutter, production assistant; Paul Dunlap, set design; Debbie DeVore, hair and makeup; Pam Douglas, props; Beth Blickensderfer, stage manager; Stephen Albury, lights; and Larry Sams, sound.

Tickets are on sale at $15 for adults and $10 for students and military personnel. Theater members receive $1 off of the ticket price on opening night. Tickets may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center at Kent State Tuscarawas either in person or by calling 330-308-6400. They also can be purchased online at www.thelittletheatreonline.org
or at the door the night or day of the performances.

Curtain times are 7:30 p.m. for Friday and Saturday and 2:30 p.m. for Sunday matinees. The show will run Feb. 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22 and 23.

The 2019-20 season is presented by Virginia and Robert Cassady, Steve and Becky Mastin, and the Little Theatre Original Productions troupe.

The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County is located at 466 Carrie Ave. NW in New Philadelphia.
