The Little Theatre of Tuscarawas County will hold open-call auditions for its winter musical, “Thoroughly Modern Millie,” on Sunday and Monday, Nov. 18 and 19 at 7 p.m.

Director and choreographer Bart Herman said auditioners will sing 16 bars of a Broadway song in the same style as the show. Anyone wishing to sing a selection from the show may do so. An accompanist will be provided.

Those interested in being in the ensemble as well as most characters will be required to perform a dance audition. Wear comfortable clothes and if possible bring tap shoes. If only interested in Mrs. Meers or Muzzy roles, participants will not need to do the dance audition.

Set in New York City in 1922, the production tells the story of young Millie Dillmount from Kansas, who comes to New York in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East, her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage and the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name, or so he tells her.

“Thoroughly Modern Millie” will open Friday, Feb. 8 and continue its run Feb. 9, 10, 15, 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24. All roles are open, and all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

The Little Theatre is located at 466 Carrie Ave. NW in New Philadelphia.
