The public is invited to get out cameras and submit works to the Tuscarawas County Amateur Photographic Association’s annual photo contest.

The contest is held in cooperation with the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts.

There are several categories in the contest: Black and White, which includes any subject in black and white, and Color categories of Nature, People, Landscapes/Cityscapes and Everything Else.

The contest is open to the public with an entry fee of $3 per photo with no limit set on the amount of entries.

“Everyone is encouraged to enter,” said Michelle Wittensoldner, president of the Tuscarawas County Amateur Photographic Association. “You don’t have to be a member.”

Previous winning photos from prior shows may not be entered, and only original images taken by the photographer can be entered. Any photos found to have been downloaded from the internet will be removed.

Entries can be submitted from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4 at the Tuscarawas Center for the Arts, 461 Robinson Ave. SE, New Philadelphia.

Wittensoldner said anyone from any county can enter the contest as long as they can drop off their entries at the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts on that Friday or Saturday between the hours listed.

Framed work should have wire backs for hanging at the exhibit. Prints mounted on matte board are acceptable, however. Wittensoldner said prints will be accepted without mattes as long as the prints can be hung at the Tuscarawas Center for the Arts. All prints should have the name, address and phone number of the photographer written on the back. Prints can be marked with a price or NFS (not for sale). The art center retains 30 percent commission for any sales made.

The minimum size for photographs submitted is 8-by-10, but there is no maximum set size.

The Tuscarawas County Amateur Photographic Association and the Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts are not responsible for any loss or damage of the entries.

The photos will be hung for public viewing at the Tuscarawas Center for the Arts with a special reception from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1. Winning ribbons will be awarded to photographs in each category. All items may be picked up after the reception.

The Tuscarawas County Amateur Photographic Association has been around since 1981, Wittensoldner said. There are about a dozen active members of the group currently.

The Tuscarawas County Amateur Photographic Association meets at 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of every month at the Geib Center at 116 Second St. NE in New Philadelphia. Each meeting has a speaker or subject the members will discuss. A yearly schedule of special events for the club
is planned such as members going together to shoot the Cleveland Zoo. Dues are $10 for a year.
