The Massillon Museum will join museums nationwide in the Blue Star Museums Initiative, a program that provides free admission to currently serving U.S. military personnel and their families this summer.

“Because a visit to the Massillon Museum is always free, we offer discounts to those who serve our country and their families,” said Brandon Rohrer, MassMu’s guest operations manager. “And while the program officially extends each year from Armed Forces Day to Labor Day, we offer our discounts throughout the year.”

As the national 2021 Blue Star Museums program launches, the Massillon Museum will continue to offer a 10% discount on classes and workshops for all ages, memberships and shop purchases.

The national 2021 program will begin on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 15, and end on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6. Find the list of participating museums at www.arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.

Blue Star Museums is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in collaboration with Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and participating museums nationwide.

“Like the resilience that military families demonstrate time and again, the Massillon Museum is an example of resiliency in the arts sector over the past year,” said Ann Eilers, acting chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts. “We are grateful to MassMu for its leadership in strengthening community through its participation in the Blue Star Museums program this summer.”

Blue Star Museums include children’s museums; art, science and history museums; and zoos, gardens, lighthouses and more in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the launch of the Blue Star Museums 2021 program. Thank you to the Massillon Museum for participating in this impactful and highly anticipated program,” said Kathy RothDouquet, CEO Blue Star Families. “Because of MassMu and its counterparts in the arts community, military families have the opportunity to create special memories and experience the arts again.”

The program is available for those currently serving in the United States Military: Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps and NOAA Commissioned Corps, along with five family members. Qualified visitors should show a Geneva Convention common access card, DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID) or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card to receive discounts at MassMu.

The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council and ArtsinStark and marketing support from Visit Canton.

MassMu is located at 121 Lincoln Way E. in downtown Massillon. A visit is always free. Free parking is available on adjacent streets and in nearby city lots. For more information call 330-833-4061 or visit www.massillonmuseum.org.
