The Massillon Museum’s annual membership drive is underway. The theme of MassMu’s 10th annual campaign is “Many Members Make MassMu!”

Operations officer Scot Phillips, who coordinates the membership campaign, cites members-only events; advance notification of public museum activities; and discounts on programs, classes and museum shop purchases as the most popular membership benefits.

“Membership support is essential to the Massillon Museum,” executive director Alexandra Nicholis Coon said. “It augments the income we receive from property taxes, which cover roughly 70% of our total operating budget. Membership monies provide essential unrestricted funding for some of the special projects we organize.”

Phillips called the Massillon Museum a dynamic and creative learning center in downtown Massillon, the span of which reaches beyond Stark County and Northeast Ohio. “It will continue to do so for generations to come,” he said, “with membership support.”

Individuals, students and families who join at the basic level all receive a discount on classes, workshops and museum shop purchases; a subscription to the museum newsletter; invitations to “members-only” events; and facility rental opportunities. Events and rentals are temporarily suspended but will be resumed when the pandemic eases. New members receive a museum logo item.

This campaign will feature added “member perks” for joining or renewing. These extra incentives, which will change weekly, will be announced every Monday on the museum’s social-media pages. Biweekly member-only workshops also will take place throughout the campaign. The museum always practices social distancing onsite; workshops also will be offered virtually.

Those who choose higher levels of membership earn benefits such as a reciprocal art card good for admission at participating Ohio museums, a 10% discount on photo reproductions, a matted print of an image in the museum’s collection and a Massillon Museum behind-the-scenes tour.

To become a member of the Massillon Museum, call Phillips at 330-833-4061 ext. 110, stop at the reception desk for a membership brochure or visit www.massillonmuseum.org.

Individual memberships are $25. The entire family receives membership advantages for $50. Students may join for $10. Pets can join for just $5 if they don’t plan to visit the museum or $10 if they plan to attend a pet-friendly event. Memberships are available at many higher levels.

Corporate members qualify for additional rewards. At the basic level, all corporate members earn free use of the ANC Conference Room, listing on the museum website and museum courtesy cards. As contributions increase in value, additional benefits include listing in the quarterly calendar and newsletter, 10% discount on photo reproductions, private gallery talks and speakers, VIP access prior to exhibition openings, listing as exhibition sponsors, selected exhibition catalogs, a limited edition print, and a corporate brick in the museum walkway.

Although the membership drive continues through the end of the year, new members are welcome at any time throughout the year.

The Massillon Museum is open to the public with no admission fee from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday. It is located at 121 Lincoln Way E. in downtown Massillon.
