The Tuscarawas Society for Children & Adults, better known as the Rainbow Connection, announced the winners of its first Telethon Art Contest.

Dover Middle School sixth-grader Anderson O’Brien, 12, was the grand prize winner. His artwork will be featured on billboards around Tuscarawas County promoting the organization’s upcoming telethon. A canvas of his artwork also will be available for purchase during the telethon auction.

“We are proud of the artwork we received from Anderson and all our participants,” Rainbow Connection Executive Director Perci Garner said. “Rainbow Connection is a charity for Tuscarawas County residents made possible by Tuscarawas County residents. Through the creativity of our art contest participants, we hope to raise awareness for not only our telethon, but more importantly our organization and the assistance we are able to provide.”

In addition to O’Brien, nine other Tuscarawas County students were selected as winners and will appear alongside him on the billboards. They include Ashtyn Scott, 13; Pippen Miller, 7; Kadence Wilkinson, 13; Sela Perez-Ixcoy, 15; Ryon Margo, 7; Parker Bunnelle, 13; Denisse Ajanel Cox, 9; Mia van Pelt, 9; and Piper Kennedy, 6. All 10 winners also are invited to appear on the telethon.

The 2024 Rainbow Connection Telethon will be live at Tuscarawas Central Catholic High School on Sunday, March 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and can be watched at www.tuscrainbow.org, on Spectrum Cable Channel 15 and on the LBN app.

Over the last five years, the Rainbow Connection has paid for nearly $1.7 million in medical expenses and community projects for Tuscarawas County residents, covering everything from hearing aids, prescription costs and prosthetics to sensory equipment, handicapped accessibility in public places and medical bills for those struggling to make ends meet. Of those funds, more than $350,000 was awarded to Tuscarawas County schools and organizations that support them.
