Two New Philadelphia High School students have been selected to be a part of the 2020 Ohio Music Education Association All-State Choir.

Anna Zurcher, a junior alto singer, is the daughter of Shawn and Cheryle Zurcher. Tyler Maddux, a sophomore tenor singer, is the son of Mark and Janice Maddux. Both students are members of the Delphian Chorale.

Approximately 1,000 applications were received from schools all over the state, and of those, 160 were selected to participate. Selection for All-State ensembles in Ohio is extremely competitive.

High school applicants submit a registration form and a recording of required music excerpts, as well as performance of a Class A or Class B solo from the OMEA solo list for consideration.

Recordings are assessed by a committee of music educators selected by the All-State Committee chairs. In 2020 All-State members will gather in Cincinnati from Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 for rehearsals with guest conductors and performances at the OMEA Professional Conference at the Duke Energy Convention Center.
