The Marbled Valentines Family Workshop for all ages will be held Feb. 5 at the Wayne Center for the Arts.

                        

The next season of classes at the Wayne Center for the Arts will start soon, and classes are filling quickly. For more information on the classes, go to www.wayneartscenter.org.

Preschool art and movement

Snowflake Hop for age 3-5 will be Saturday, Jan. 29 from 10-10:45 a.m. on the lower level with instructor Claire Brennan. During this workshop students will explore watercolors with wax-resist snowflakes. Supplies are provided and included in the tuition but bring an old shirt because art can be messy. Class also will include a movement break. Parents should drop off preschoolers so they can work independently and have some free time. The cost is $15.

Rainbow Fish Bop for age 3-5 will be Saturday, Feb. 19 from 10-10:45 a.m. on the lower level with instructor Brennan. During this workshop students will listen to the story of the rainbow fish and then make their own. Supplies are provided and included in tuition but bring an old shirt. Class also will include a movement break. Parents should drop off preschoolers. The cost is $15.

Winter 2022 teen and adult

Watercolor Wednesdays for age 18 and up will be Jan. 19 through Feb. 16 from 10-11:30 a.m. in the children’s studio with instructor Joanne Murray. This daytime class will offer watercolor painting at one’s own pace with one-on-one consultation from the instructor during class time. Attendees will learn about impressionism, painting from light to dark and many watercolor painting techniques. This is a class for painters of all levels. The cost is $110.

Mixed-media mash-up for age 14-18 will be Thursdays from Jan. 20 through Feb. 24 from 6-7:30 p.m. on the lower level with instructor Rachel Derr. This class will explore various materials and methods to create multi-media artworks. The cost is $120.

A needle felting workshop for age 12-18 will be Jan. 22 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. on the lower level with instructor Alivia Tissot. This workshop will combine both 2-D and 3-D art with needle felting. Experiment with different types of needle felting and learn the process to create small sculptures out of felt. The cost is $25.

Drawing for Teens for age 12-18 will be Mondays from Jan. 24 through Feb. 14 from 5-6:30 p.m. on the lower level with instructor Emily Negro. Learn how and when to use several drawing tools and tricks to improve drawings immediately and effectively. From anime to realism, all artists are welcome. All supplies are provided, but bringing a personal sketchbook is recommended. The cost is $65.

Drawing for Beginners for age 14 to adult will be Mondays from Jan. 24 through Feb. 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the children’s studio with Negro. This beginners’ course is focused on drawing technique. No matter what skill level, each student will be met where they are and encouraged to improve through a variety of subjects, prompts and demonstrations. The cost is $65.

Arts Sampler for adults age 18 and up will be Tuesdays from Jan. 25 through Feb. 15 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the children’s studio lower classroom pottery studios with WCA visual arts and pottery staff. This course provides the opportunity to try a different art form each week. The cost is $95.

Digital arts and photography

Documentary Filmmaking 101 for age 13 to adult will be Wednesdays from Jan. 19 through March 2 from 6-8 p.m. in the main level conference room with instructor Lisa Buie. This class will go over every step in creating a modern, story-driven documentary that engages viewers both visually and emotionally, all with one’s cell phone or digital camera. By the end of this course, participants will have planned, filmed and edited their first short documentary. Topics covered include how to conduct a story-driven interview, how to use effective lighting, how to shoot B-roll, audio for video production, location scouting and basic editing. The cost is $105.

Graphic Design Basics for age 10-13 will be Thursdays from Jan. 20 through Feb. 10 from 4:30-6 p.m. in the main level conference room with instructor James Buckey. It’s a beginner-level course designed to introduce basic concepts of graphic design. Participants will learn how to use many of the elementary computer tools of photo editing to transform pictures in a range of useful ways. The cost is $45.

How To Photograph Your Artwork for age 14 to adult will be Thursdays from Jan. 20 through Feb. 17 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the main level conference room with instructor Brent Watkins. Participants will learn the basic process, tips and techniques required to photograph artwork. This class will get attendees closer to showcasing their artwork in a professional way.

Winter 2022 teen, adult and family workshops

Marbled Valentines Family Workshop for all ages (under 8 with adult) will be Saturday, Feb. 5 from 12:30-2:30 p.m. on the lower level with instructor Pat Anderson. Get the family together to create special cards. Learn together and create marbled designs. Tuition covers up to three family members. The cost is $25.
