Zimmerly to present hymns on piano Aug. 18
Area pianist Geoffrey Zimmerly will present An Afternoon of Hymns on Piano on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. at Smithville Brethren Church, 193 E. Main St., Smithville.
Zimmerly will be joined by Phyllis Snyder, area pianist and organist. The two will perform two piano duets along with Zimmerly’s solo works. The concert will feature hymn arrangements by composers such as Bruce Greer, David Clydesdale, Charles Szcepanek, Cameron Cody, Christina Mathis and Dino Kartsonakis.
Zimmerly has studied with Snyder, Pamela Yarnell and Elizabeth Pastor. He earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Ashland University, where he studied with Pastor and was a student accompanist for many different ensembles and productions. He also holds a Master of Educational Administration from Ashland University and is currently an administrator in the Green Local School District.
Zimmerly is the former director of choirs for Loudonville-Perrysville EVSD and Green Local Schools. He also has musical theater directing credits of over 40 musicals with Ashland University, Ashland Summer Theater, WACPAC, Cameo and area public schools. Zimmerly has served as the pianist at Smithville Brethren Church for over 25 years and also currently free lances as a collaborative pianist with various voice studios and singers.
The recital is free, and a reception will follow the recital.
