Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Before Business networking event was hosted by Central American Medical Outreach Inc., 322 Westwood Ave., Orrville.

Launched in 1993 by former Peace Corps nurse Kathryn M. Tschiegg, RN, BBA, CAMO is a nondenominational, Christian-based, humanitarian organization that brings life-saving medical services, education and community development to Central America. CAMO provides more than 140,000 life-saving services each year to impoverished people who otherwise would not have access to aid.

CAMO staff were on hand to share information about their programs and services and provide a tour of the facilities.

From training and education to medical and community services, CAMO is helping to set a new standard for all.

Volunteers are a vital part of CAMO. From sorting donated medical supplies, to packing and labeling boxes, to loading shipping containers, CAMO can use all levels of volunteers.

Through CAMO’s recycling and redistribution efforts, 300,000 pounds of usable items each year end up saving lives instead of piling up in landfills, so the need for volunteers to sort and pack these supplies is essential.

“Businesses can volunteer in different ways with CAMO,” said Helene Moncman, executive director, USA. “For example they could collect items for dental kit packages at their office and spend an afternoon as a team preparing them and delivering to CAMO. It is a great team-building exercise.”

The following are things needed in a dental kit: toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and soap. Place supplies in a quart Ziploc bag and seal.

Business members were invited to take a water bottle back to their office, set the water bottle out and collect dimes in it. A full water bottle of dimes equals a $100 donation for CAMO.

Also available was CAMO’s premium coffee from Honduras to sip on during the event and to purchase to help further CAMO’s mission. Nearly 50 chamber members were in attendance. They networked with one another while learning about CAMO’s work.

Breakfast Before Business networking events are hosted bimonthly at chamber member business locations. They are now booking for 2018. Spots will fill quickly.
