The top three companies will have the opportunity to pitch to a panel of judges, with cash prizes and professional advice up for grabs.

The second annual Shark Tub pitch competition will put more than a dozen small businesses in a rivalry for $7,500 in cash prizes and professional advising. The public is invited to attend this event on Tuesday, April 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Buckeye Career Center in New Philadelphia.

It is free to enter and watch the competition, but attendees also can support the startup businesses and bring some money. For $5 people can get a handful of prop money to use during the first hour of the competition to support and invest in their favorite startups. People can buy as many handfuls of prop money as they wish for $5 each.

More than a dozen startup companies under 5 years old from East Central Ohio are ready to vie for support. The first hour of the event, the public and supporters will invest in their favorite companies by putting prop money in the baskets on each competitor’s table.

The second hour the top three companies will have five minutes each to give their best business pitch to the panel of judges. The judges have $7,500 to give away — $5,000 to first place, $2,000 to second and $500 to third.
