What is the first question most people asked after learning that Holmes Lumber is now a True Value hardware store?

Dan Troyer said people are asking, “Are you going to sell Easy Care paint?”

“We’re excited to be reintroducing True Value’s Easy Care paint back to the community, but we’re also excited to add thousands of new items to our product line,” said Troyer, manager of Holmes Lumber’s newly remodeled Millersburg store. “These are all product categories that we’ve always carried, but we just were not as complete as we could have been. Now we are. Combining our large selection of building materials with our expanded hardware lines, contractors and homeowners can now make a single stop and get everything they need to complete their projects. It couldn’t be more convenient.”

In February, Holmes Lumber welcomed True Value as its hardware supplier, and in April the company began a complete remodeling of the 60-year-old store located about halfway between Millersburg and Berlin on Route 39.

For decades, Troyer said, Holmes Lumber had focused heavily on serving professional contractors.

“We’re not changing our commitment to contractors, but we’ve felt for some time that, partly because of our convenient location, we were missing out on the opportunity to do more for homeowners in the area,” Troyer explained. “If you own a home or a property, you’re probably going to run out to a hardware store quite a few times every month. By adding thousands of new inventory items to our electrical, plumbing, lawn and garden, tools, paint, cleaning, and automotive departments, we have everything necessary to complete any type of project.”

The store offers a completely new, modern appearance.

“To make room for all of the new inventory, we took out the 5-foot-high shelves and replaced them with tall 84-inch shelving that has allowed us to display a lot more products in the same square footage,” Troyer said.

The new relationship with True Value, he said, made the product expansion possible.

Troyer said True Value had a strong reputation in Millersburg before the town’s only True Value store reaffiliated with another franchise several years ago. The popular Easy Care line of paint disappeared along with the True Value sign.

“A lot of people in this area bought a lot of Easy Care paint,” Troyer said. “It is a top-quality product that covers very well. That’s why people love it so much.”

To be sure customers get the most out of its expanded product lines, Holmes Lumber has added more knowledgeable and experienced floor sales people to its team.

“Along with our newer staff members, we have some employees who have been with us for decades,” Troyer said. “Their number-one goal is to make sure each customer gets what they need to successfully complete their project.”

Along with its expansive new hardware lines, Holmes Lumber continues to feature top-quality building products and services including TimberTech AZEK decking, lumber and plywood, metal roofing and siding, roofing products, siding, windows and doors, garage doors, insulation, kitchen and bath products, millwork, trusses and wall panels, and design estimates.

“Homeowners no longer need to make one stop for their hardware and hit the road again to buy a 2-by-4,” Troyer said.

Holmes Lumber will show off its newly remodeled store at a special three-day open house from Thursday, July 18 through Saturday, July 20. Free hot lunch will be served on Thursday and Friday, and a free pancake and sausage breakfast will be offered — along with an ice cream bar — on Saturday.

Festivities will include giveaways and a drawing for a Florida vacation and other fantastic prizes. Guests also will be able to get 20 percent off all the regularly priced items they can fit into a five-gallon True Value bucket. Everything else will be 15 percent off including building materials.
