Jay Lehman of Kidron is the recipient of this year’s National Journey Award from Everence.

The Journey Award, created in 2001, highlights what people of faith are doing as stewards of their God-given gifts. The 2019 award honored Lehman for supporting organizations that help people in need around the world.

Lehman served with PAX in Europe after World War II and with Mennonite Central Committee in Africa for more than 10 years. The founder of Lehman Hardware and Appliances has contributed faithfully to MCC, Mennonite Economic Development Associates, Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary and other causes.

Lehman’s stewardship also shows in his conservation practices. He has planted at least 25,000 trees and is known for favoring fixing and reusing over discarding and buying new.

As part of the National Journey Award, Everence makes a $5,000 donation to the charity of the recipient’s choice. Lehman chose to have $2,500 go to MCC and $2,500 to Mennonite Mission Network. Lehman was formally recognized on a recent Sunday morning at his home church, Kidron Mennonite Church.

Everence helps individuals, organizations and congregations integrate finances with faith through a national team of advisors and representatives. Everence offers banking, insurance and financial services with community benefits and stewardship education. Everence is a ministry of Mennonite Church USA and other churches.
