After 18 years in the Cleveland area, Optometrist Dr. Jon Schonfeld, of Novus Clinic Total Eye Care, said he is thrilled to be in Wooster.

“It is wonderful to come home to the Wooster area,” said Dr. Schonfeld, who joined Novus’ Wooster location in June following Novus’ acquisition of the office. “The locals are super nice, and it’s been great for all my family and friends to be able to come and see me much easier than before.”

Tim Milburn, DO, the previous owner of the office, retired and moved to Texas. Along with the new Wooster office, Novus also acquired Milburn’s second location, in Medina.

Dr. Schonfeld, who operated his own vision center for 13 years, said he had considered opening a practice in Wooster for years and was delighted to learn about Novus’ acquisition of Milburn Eye Center.

“I was very familiar with Novus’ reputation, so I decided to contact them and see if they were interested in having me for their local guy,” he recalled. “It was a great match.”

Dr. Schonfeld quickly learned that he and Novus shared a common philosophy.

“We have a very similar medical model of how we treated our patients,” he said. “Many eye care providers do a lot of just glasses and contact lenses, but Novus has delved into handling patients with strokes, diabetes, macular degeneration and other advanced conditions within eye care.”

To better diagnose and treat patients with advanced conditions, the clinic has invested in the latest new equipment, like a back-of-the-eye scanner and an optical coherence tomography scanner that allows Dr. Schonfeld to look for more advanced diseases, like glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy — three conditions in which he has a special interest.

Since 1992, Novus Total Eye Care, now with seven Northeast Ohio locations, has uniquely combined ophthalmology and optometry services under one roof, providing a one-stop shop for optimal eye health care. As the name implies, Novus Clinic Total Eye Care offers complete, full-service eye care, from routine examinations to eye surgery to contact lens fittings to a large variety of eyeglass frames within all budgets. Change to: The clinic has over 1000 brand new frames to choose from starting at just $49 Along with a great frame selection, Novus also specializes in hard-to-fit contact lenses.

“Our optical section has been totally revamped with a ton of newer products that we previously didn’t carry,” Dr. Schonfeld said. “We now have RayBan and Oakley to name a few. Anybody who comes in is going to see a completely new looking frame selection as well as our new lens products.”

They also will continue to see the familiar staff that served patients before Novus acquired the office, including opticians Carolyn Dunham and Michelle Finger, and technicians Calli Dilyard and Jessica Cooley.

“Having those familiar faces makes it more comfortable for existing patients, and everybody will enjoy the happy, engaging customer experience we offer,” he said.

Dr. Schonfeld said a love of optics — the branch of physics that deals with light and vision — led him into a career as an optometrist.

“I always had an interest in cameras and photography, which I extended by going into training for optics, and optometry was the way to go,” he said.

After graduating from Kent State University with a BS degree in biochemistry, biology and chemistry, Dr. Schonfeld attended the Pennsylvania College of Optometry, which is now a part of Salus University in Philadelphia. He said he and his wife, Jennie, are avid soccer fans who enjoy watching their four sons play.

“I am passionate about eye care,” he said. “Your eyes tell a lot about some of the medical problems that can happen within your body.”
