Pomerene Hospital board of directors appointed Jason Justus, current chief financial officer and chief operating officer of Pomerene Hospital, to assume the role as chief executive officer.

Effective at the end of August 2019, Justus will replace current Pomerene Hospital CEO Tony Snyder as he will leave Pomerene to assume the role of chief executive officer of Aultman Hospital.

Snyder has held the top leadership role at Pomerene for 14 years and throughout his tenure has accomplished many successes. Some of those include being recognized as a Truven Top 100 Hospital; converting Pomerene to a private, not-for-profit organization; building an extensive Amish Services program; and establishing a culture at Pomerene where service excellence is the focus of the entire staff.

“I am incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to serve Pomerene as its CEO for these past 14 years,” Snyder said. “I believe Holmes County is so fortunate to have such a great hospital in the community. One of the most important lessons I have learned as CEO is that Pomerene’s employees, physicians and volunteers are the real reason for the great success we have shared. They are the true ‘owners’ of Pomerene’s reputation.”

Of Justus as CEO, Snyder said, “I have the utmost confidence in Jason as the new CEO of Pomerene. I believe the board of directors did a great job selecting such a qualified individual like Jason. He possesses Pomerene’s values and appreciates that it takes the engagement of the full team to be successful. Pomerene is in good hands.”

Justus has served as the vice president of finance and chief financial officer for Pomerene for nearly 10 years. With more than 26 years of professional experience, Justus has exhibited a track record of delivering strong business results, decision-making and leadership in each phase of his career.

His experience as a health-care leader includes improving operating performance, strategic planning, capital structure and financial planning, revenue and reimbursement growth and improvement, and clinical-care integration and efficiency.

Under Justus’ tenure as CFO, Pomerene has been the recipient of the Ohio Auditor of State Award for five consecutive years including recognition from the Ohio House of Representatives for outstanding fiscal compliance and accountability.

“Assuming the role of CEO for Pomerene is an honor and a privilege,” Justus said. “I have a great deal of excitement and pride in representing a long tenure of successful leadership, terrific providers, a passionate clinical-care team as well as employees who strive each and every day to achieve our mission: ‘Caring for our Community’s Health.’”

Justus completed his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Ohio University and his master’s degree in business administration from Ashland University.

“On behalf of Pomerene I want to thank Tony for his many years of dedicated service to Pomerene Hospital as its CEO,” said Dan Mathie, chairman of the Pomerene board of directors. “Pomerene has made great strides in caring for our community’s health under Tony’s leadership. I wish him the best as the CEO of Aultman Hospital. Jason’s commitment to ‘I am Pomerene,’ his years of experience and dedication as CFO and COO of Pomerene, and his compassion for the employees and patients of Pomerene made Jason the obvious choice to succeed Tony as CEO of Pomerene.”
