The Gospel Shop: A faithful place to shop

Rhoda and Freeman Mullet take pride in their staff who have been with them for years. They go the extra mile to take care of customers in search of Christian books and other items that celebrate faith.

Last March, The Gospel Shop in Sugarcreek celebrated their 51st year in business. A small shop that was started in the David Stutzman home in 1966 has become a mainstay in the village by offering customers Christian books, inspirational and seasonal gifts, faith-based cards and box cards, CDs and DVDs, T-shirts and Bibles along with a variety of children’s items for every occasion in a family-friendly atmosphere.

Stutzman’s daughter and son-in-law, Rhoda and Freeman Mullet now own the second-generation business and they continue the tradition of offering customers the very best products that celebrate faith with impeccable service.

Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 11-13, The Gospel Shop welcomes guests to their 22nd annual Garage Sale event. The event coincides with other garage sales held throughout the village.

“My dad started this years ago as a way to reduce inventory in the shop by offering discounts of 50-90 percent,” Rhoda Mullet said. “We get customers from all over who come just for the Garage Sale. It’s held behind the shop. We have had so much success with this sale, we have kept it going all these years. We serve coffee and cookies. It’s a lot of fun for us.”

The Mullets take pride in their longtime employees who are able to meet the needs of customers, some who travel a great distance to find Christian merchandise that reflects their faith.

“We are grateful for the support we receive from our customers,” Rhoda Mullet said. “Nearly every day we hear how other Christian shops have closed. Business is good thanks to the local residents and visitors who continually shop with us.”

Both Rhoda and Freeman Mullet agree Christian fiction and boxed cards are among their most popular items in the shop. In an effort to engage customers who frequent the store, they offer book-signings and other author events throughout the year that allow customers the opportunity to be face to face with their favorite authors and illustrators.

The Mullets say now is the perfect time to stock up on gifts for the holidays. The shop includes a large selection of merchandise and special and personalized orders are always gladly accepted.

Stop in The Gospel Shop and let the friendly staff help you choose the right gifts for your family and closest friends.
