The availability of both physical and mental health services under one roof provides an advantage for patients of Community Mental Healthcare.

Miles Riley, marketing and compliance coordinator at Community Mental Healthcare said, “just about everybody at some point in their life is in a position where they need a helping hand. We’re here to provide it.”

Despite the emphasis on “mental health” in its name, Community Mental Healthcare, with convenient locations in Dover, New Philadelphia and Carrollton, also offers family health services - including dentistry - along with comprehensive behavioral health services.

In 2019, CMH will celebrate 50 years of providing behavioral health services in Tuscarawas and Carroll counties.

Three years ago the organization added primary care and dental services with the opening of Community Family Health Center in Dover. The opening of the health center helped transform CMH into a uniquely integrated health care provider.

Community Mental Healthcare offers psychiatry, individual and group counseling, day treatment, adult and adolescent case management, 24/7 crisis stabilization; substance-abuse treatment including medication assisted treatment, intensive outpatient programs and school-based counseling.

Primary care and dental services are provided at Community Family Health Center in Dover.

“You often hear about the ‘stigma’ associated with behavioral health,” Riley said. “What may surprise people is that the majority of the people who seek counseling services are working on developing skills to help with their depression, grief, anxiety, family issues, or other common conditions. We should be talking about mental health as comfortably and openly as we talk about dental health. There is nothing shameful about feeling sad, anxious or scared.”

JJ Boroski, executive director of CMH said the availability of both physical and mental health services under one roof as well as in the school environment provides a great advantage for all individuals in the community.

“There are few organization in Ohio providing the variety of services like we are at CMH,” Boroski said. “In many ways, we are a one-stop-shop for high-quality healthcare. Not only is it convenient, it also allows our providers to create a more individualized treatment plan, which increases the opportunity for positive health outcomes.”

Individuals are not required to be a patient at one facility to use the services of the other. “For example, you do not have to receive services at the behavioral health facility to see the dentist and vice versa,” Boroski said.

CMH accepts Medicaid, Medicare except for dental services, and private insurance. A sliding fee scale (self-pay) is available for those who may not be covered others. All ages are welcome.

As the agency celebrates 50 years of service, Boroski said he is excited and confident about the future of the organization.

“Our mission is to continually provide accessible health services that are most needed in our community,” Boroski said. “Our community needed more primary care options, so we opened our primary care office. Our community needed dental services, so we invested in developing a dental program. When the schools asked if we could increase counseling services in their districts, we added more than 20 providers to handle the need. We are committed to building a stronger and healthier community right now, and for 50 more years.”
