Holmes OH-4H Club holds last two meetings
                        

The Holmes County OH-4H Club met July 13 and then July 26 for its final meeting of the year.

On July 13 the club met in person but outdoors, at least 6 feet apart and with all wearing masks to keep everyone safe. Fourteen people attended the meeting, which was called to order by Maria Steiner, club president.

Natalie Strouse led the 4-H Pledge, and Cole Porter led the Pledge of Allegiance. In the absence of secretary John Vales, Bonnie Porter did role call and read the minutes from the June 14 meeting. The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurer Porter read the treasurer’s report, which was approved as read. Life skills project judging was discussed, and livestock project members were reminded to turn in their books by July 16. Penning assignments were all done, and all market project members had completed their quality assurance requirements.

Updates were provided by Strouse on the petting zoo video for the County Home and by Steiner on the fair booth plans. The next meeting was scheduled, and the meeting was adjourned by Steiner.

The final meeting for the year also was outdoors, following COVID-19 guidelines, and 14 people attended. The meeting was called to order by Steiner, Jake Markley led the Pledge of Allegiance and Gabe Umstead led the 4-H Pledge.

Vales did roll call and read the minutes from the July 13 meeting, which were approved as read. In the absence of treasurer Porter, Bonnie Porter read the treasurer’s report, which was approved as read. Club safety officer Addison Umstead provided a presentation via Zoom by the state fire marshal regarding farm safety. Club health officer Gabe Umstead provided a healthy living and eating presentation by licensed dietitian Renae Spencer.

Vales demonstrated a Japanese katana, a historical sword he had recently learned about. Addison Umstead demonstrated how she cares for her Nigerian dwarf goat, Gabe Umstead demonstrated how to tie a quick-release knot for animal safety, Emily Harrower demonstrated another form of a quick-release knot that includes a daisy chain and Jake Markley demonstrated how to tie a clench knot for a strong fishing line.

Members were reminded to turn in photos to the fair board and to the fair booth committee. The meeting was adjourned by Steiner.
