On Aug. 18, TOPS OH157 opened with pledges. The club has 17 weeks with a net loss, and Janice Tope was the best weekly loser. She said to drink six 8-ounce glasses of water each day. Geneva Pringle was the best rededicated loser. She said less sugar. Lana Rush was the best weekly KOPS.

Bonnie Porter’s program came from the AARP’s website and is titled “Clues To Stay Motivated.” She said start with small goals, have a plan and expect lapses. After a setback, go back to your plan.

On Aug. 25, TOPS OH157 celebrated Sondra Martini’s 3½ months with no weight gain, losing 16¼ pounds as the best weekly and monthly loser. She cited only 4 desserts this week and walking 15 minuets each day. Leo Tope was the best re-dedicated weekly and monthly loser and Lana Rush was best weekly and monthly KOPS.

Leo Tope’s program came from TOPS News July/August 2019 entitled “Rethink That {Healthy} Drink. Why “diet” may not be better for you,” in which a doctor said artificially sweetened beverages can stimulated taste receptors, making us crave other sugary food and drinks, and that research shows there are links between diet drinks and disease. Bottom line, we are better off with sugar than artificial sweeteners, and best of all, drink water.

TOPS Club meets each Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. with weigh-in at 5 p.m. at the Nashville United Methodist Church. For more information call 330-465-5788 or 330-600-2649. All are welcome.
