Summer is here. School is out. Gas prices are up. Travel can be complicated. So what do you have in mind to make this summer fun?

Maybe you have time and funds for a big vacation, and maybe you don’t. But how about just adding more simple pleasures more often to every day?

Pick some things from this list and let it inspire your own ideas. Make a list for those times you need a lift.

Play fetch with the dog. Cuddle with the cat. Talk to the parrot.

Watch the chicks follow their mother and scratch around for bugs. Check out the ducks piled up for a nap and then waddling off in a row. Laugh at the calves chasing each other around the field.

Go for a walk. Take a hike. Run and bring along a friend or the family dog.

Grab a bottle of bubbles and head to the back yard with your little ones.

Go fishing in the early morning or as the sun heads for the horizon.

Pack a picnic and head for a grassy spot.

Ride your bike along a route that ends at a favorite restaurant.

Sit on the back porch with a cup of coffee or tea and watch the birds or go to the front porch and watch the neighborhood in action.

Buy a tub of ice cream so you can make your own cones, sundaes, floats and more. Better yet, make your own ice cream.

Grill dinner. Do all the meat and vegetables on the grill and use paper plates so you can skip the kitchen cleanup afterward.

Park somewhere pretty and watch the sun go down or come up.

Read a book, an actual paper book. Write an extra-long journal entry.

Pick wildflowers or berries.

Look out the window.

Draw something. Paint a picture. Take a photo.

Peruse a bookstore or library.

Venture to a park or small town you haven’t visited before.

Linger in a coffee shop.

Create your own jewelry or indulge in a craft.

Get a special manicure.

Read the stack of magazines you’ve been collecting.

Write a long email to a friend or actually pen a letter on paper and mail it.

Stroll through an antique store or two.

Visit a museum. Go to a play.

Take a class for the fun of it.

Read to your children no matter what their ages.

Make up stories and share them as you hike.

Shut off your phone for a day or a few hours.

Bake something you love.

Dig in the garden. Imagine the delicious treats to come.

Bake a cake and swirl on decorations.

Frequent a local farmers market. See how many new recipes you can master.

Savor a cup of coffee and do nothing else.

Lounge in a chair. Take a nap.

Dance to your favorite song. Get someone to dance with you.

Join in a local event, festival or celebration.

Weave a basket. Make a quilt.

Active or relaxing, every day deserves something special in it.
