Do you feel it? It’s in the air. The days are getting longer and have been warmer. Not every day has been warmer, but we can feel hints of spring in the air. We are still in the time of year when we have warm and cold days, a back and forth struggle between the two, but the warm weather is going to win out in time.

By the time you read this, it might be April, and hopefully we will see flowers blooming soon. When I was little, my mom always pointed out how the flowers were popping up from the ground, kind of like the Earth was giving birth to a beautiful creation.

What I love about spring is the warm weather and the flowers blooming. God’s glory is on full display for us to see. One of my unusual pleasures is the smell of a freshly cut lawn. To me there is almost nothing in comparison to it.

It gets my senses tingling with excitement, the noise of a lawn mower not so much, but what is left behind, absolutely. Just to breath in and out the aroma gives me a feeling of gladness on the inside.

Winter can seem to drudge on forever with the long period of cold, the ice and the snow. I noticed within the past few years it has been hit and miss as far as how bad it has been.

Just a few years ago it was sub-zero for a few weeks as I recall it. That was not fun. I pumped gas one night, and it was seven below outside.

My breathing was labored because of how cold it was out that night. However, when I was a kid, I remember it could be cold and stay cold all winter long.

We have a very small hill in our yard. Well, it is more like a steep little incline. We used to sled ride down it for weeks at a time, and the snow would stay packed down. Not any more, it’s cold one day and snows, then warmer a day or two later and the snow is gone.

When it stayed cold all winter, we couldn’t wait until we could get out there and enjoy the first signs of spring. Now it is the same way, but I feel like our winter can be milder so maybe we don’t appreciate it as much, although we still enjoy it.

It’s the beginning of a season of outdoor activities like going golfing, hiking, fishing, playing baseball, going for long walks, biking and more fun activities. I like not having to wear a coat when I go out in the daytime. I can just walk outside. That’s what I enjoy.

Me and my fiance both love to walk out in the woods. I feel more at peace with the world when I am in the woods. I don’t care about what the government is doing; they all say the same thing anyway. In the woods it is all stripped away, and I can think about things more clearly. I love when I look down a path in the woods and see all the green leaves in the trees, the plants awakening from their long sleep and some of the wildlife.

Embracing the things of God and seeing him in the beauty of the great outdoors, for me it is easy to hear his voice in the peace and quiet of the woods, away from all the busyness of the towns and for some of us maybe the city.

We have so much coming at us at one time; it is very overwhelming sometimes. I actually think we can grow numb to just how overwhelmed we can get, but that is another column for another week.
