This past weekend Mother Nature threw a hissy fit and savaged several states with high winds that developed into deadly tornadoes.

Our area was very lucky and endured only gusty winds but no tornadoes, although the winds were noisy enough to wake us all up. Taller Half and I checked for any damage and found only the rocking chairs on the porch being rocked from one side of the porch to the other. The sounds of the wind gusting made our dogs super nervous, sending them jumping onto our bed to hide under the covers. It took us a while to calm them down enough so we could get back under the covers and go to sleep.

The next morning we discovered the effects of the night’s storms on our poor porch. It and everything on it was soaked through and through. Even the wreath on the front door was dripping wet. But it was just rain, not snow. The porch, the walkways and the driveway would dry eventually; nothing would need to be shoveled.

However, unlike driven rain, snow falls silently, so our nights should be rather peaceful. Our dogs will remain calm and sleep peacefully in their own beds. Though we love our pups dearly, having our bed invaded by nervous, quaking canines is not conducive to a good night’s sleep.

What is not conducive to happy family gatherings are gusting winds and tornado forecasts. A soft, light snow can add to the season’s beauty, and it doesn’t make dogs nervous. It might require a bit of shoveling, but that’s Taller Half’s job.
