Cold weather means icy walks and sweaters for the dogs

The snow was falling this morning when I looked out the window. It was so pretty, like a scene on a Christmas card. But once I stepped outside to take our dogs on a walk, the scene wasn’t what it seemed.

What I thought was snow turned out to be ice. Our poor, little dogs slid down the steps on their derrières and landed in a sprawl on the sidewalk.

I froze in place and waited for my Taller Half to sprinkle snow melt on those steps. I do believe I heard our house giggle.

Needless to say, our walk was short, and we got back inside our warm house as quickly as our dogs could take care of their business.

It is amazing that something so pretty can be so dangerous.

We make our house nervous when we go outside on icy cold days. She does not want us injured and incapacitated because she needs us to keep the house well heated. So far she has not discovered how to manage the thermostat herself.

Slippery walks and steps are a winter-time hazard around here. Turns out our driveway was covered in ice too.

Fortunately our road was free and clear of other vehicles when we went sliding rather abruptly out of our driveway.

Though it was a bit disconcerting for us and our vehicle to lose traction like that, our road was clear, and we could continue on our way to buy more snow melt. I am sure our house giggled again.

As cold and wet as our weather has been lately, our house has kept us warm and cozy. Our dogs have rediscovered the joys of burrowing under pillows and throws on the couch.

They are always excited about going outside, but once there, their enthusiasm wains rather quickly. Can’t blame them. Just imagine if your bathroom was outside in the cold and wet.

The holidays are now upon us, and everyone is busy decorating their houses.

Our neighborhood is beginning to look at lot like Christmas. We are just hoping our current icy cold weather doesn’t prohibit Santa being able to visit us.

Our wish list to Santa asks for sweaters for our dogs, snow melt for our steps and a short winter.
