Our recent yard sale was a bust

Because one abode’s trash is another abode’s treasure, garage sales become a profitable way to rid your house of excess “stuff.”

That works really well for some houses but not all. Case in point, our recent such sale was a total bust. Not because we didn’t have lots of “stuff.” We had a very healthy amount.

However, Mother Natures did not cooperate, though she did begin the day with clear skies and cool temperatures. At the end of our first hour of the sale, the clouds rushed in, the air got very chilly and the rain came down in buckets.

Rainy days and garage sales are not a good mix. Add the chilly temperatures, and we sat there with only each other for company. Trust me it was neither fun nor successful. At the end of that wet day, we stuffed most of our unbought items back in the shed and took our damp, cold selves inside to mourn our failed sale.

We are trying our very best to downsize, but the fates are not cooperating one little bit. Our poor house and her little shed are stuffed full of unneeded, unwanted things that take up too much room in both places. If we began now, we might reach all our Christmas decorations stored somewhere in the shed by December.

My Taller Half, though an enthusiastic collector of “stuff,” has finally reached his saturation point. He is now in favor of my motto, “If we don’t/can’t use it, get rid of it.”

So as soon as the weather permits, we are ridding our house and shed of all that excess “stuff” by either donating or dumping it.

His reasoning you ask? He will then have plenty of room to collect more “stuff.”
