Rug removal causes home angst

Rug removal causes home angst

We have fairly recently had to have several of our rugs taken to the rug cleaners. They needed more help than we could supply here at home. Our house was shocked when her rugs were rolled up and removed from her rooms.

Though it has lovely plank floors, our house has grown fond of those rugs. Houses can become very possessive of things they consider their very own. Usually, a house feels that way about furnishings that are permanently attached to her — things like cabinets, shelves and windows. Replacing any of those things can cause a house a lot of angst, unless of course they are better, more decorative fixtures.

Having a few rugless rooms has really upset our place, and as a result her water heater immediately began to leak. To forestall any more expressions of worry, we promised our abode her rugs would return in far better shape than when they left. With colder weather just around the corner, rugless floors are not a comfort option.

Well, those dirty, old rugs have been professionally cleaned and are due back any day now. We are crossing our fingers that those nice, clean rugs come home today. It is amazing how noisy rooms become without the calming effect of rugs. Those rooms, while brighter, are much noisier.

Turns out some houses really like rugs or carpet on their floors. Who knew? Our place might have initially preferred the lovely plank floors, but she grew fond of those rugs and the quiet they provide. Today, we hope to celebrate the return of our sincerely missed floor coverings.

But prior to their arrival, our house has issued a new edict — all shoes and paws must be wiped clean before stepping inside her. Our house has spoken.
