Because it is supposed to be getting warmer, I was happily anticipating getting outside and playing in the dirt. This has been a harsh winter, and our poor gardens are in dire need of some TLC. However, while making lists and gathering gardening tools, it snowed.

Winter seems to have a stranglehold on our area. Spring just needs to assert herself and demand winter get out. We did see a robin wandering around our yard recently, but it looked lost and hungry. I rushed out and put some food in the bird feeder so the poor thing won’t give up on us and leave. If the robins abandon us, we may have cold weather until June.

What is so interesting is despite the cold and the snow, weeds are springing up in our gardens and lawn. Perhaps we need to cultivate grasses and flowers from those weeds so we can have beautiful lawns and flowers despite our bitter weather. Someone really smart should consider that idea because that is beyond my capabilities. Best I can do is yank out the weeds and yell at the snow.

The calendar assures me eventually spring will arrive, though no exact date has been promised. All we can do is hope Mother Natures eventually takes pity on us and sends in sunny days, warm temperatures and a gentle breeze or two. We will repay her by planting beautiful bushes and flowers, feeding and grooming gracious lawns, and wearing big grins on our winter-weary faces.

Come on Mother Nature. We and our houses are desperate for spring. Please, please allow her to come. I promise we will not complain about storms, heat or bugs. At least we will try not to complain. Promise.
