This free day camp will provide opportunities for youth to experience the outdoors through hands-on events, education, fellowship and family fun. Those attending will learn about fishing, shotguns and crossbows along with two other outdoor topics.

                        

The Norma Johnson Center will host a free Adventure Day Camp full of outdoor activities Aug. 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Norma Johnson Center, located 3 miles west of I-77 Dover Exit 83 on state Route 39 in Dover.

The event will only be open to the first 50 youth who register by Aug. 9. To register participants, call 330-339-7976 or download the registration form from www.normajohnsoncenter.com under events and send to 85 E. Iron Ave., Dover, OH 44622.

Adventure Day Camp will teach the principles of wildlife management and safe, ethical and responsible hunting to youth. This day will provide opportunities for youth to experience the outdoors through hands-on events, education, fellowship and family fun. Those attending will learn about fishing, shotguns and crossbows along with two other outdoor topics.

This event will allow youth to try new things by engaging them in outdoor activities and placing them with others who share an interest in wildlife and conservation. Instructors from the Tuscarawas County Shooting Sports program will run the archery and shooting part of the day. Other qualified individuals from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and trained program staff will be present to instruct participants in various topics.

This event is funded by the Kimble Company and a Step Outside Grant offered by Ohio Department of Natural Resources. A parent or guardian is asked to stay during the event, but this is not required. Lunch will be provided, and each participant will leave with several items connected with conservation and wildlife.

This event will take place near the picnic shelter on Conservation Drive and could be rescheduled if weather is not permitting.
