The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 16 Tuscarawas County high school seniors.

                        

The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Tuscarawas County recently awarded $1,000 scholarships to 16 Tuscarawas County high school seniors planning to attend Ohio State and two current OSU students from Tuscarawas County for a total of $18,000.

Five of the awards were from the Alumni Club Endowment, which was established in 1980; five from the Molly B. Demuth Memorial Scholarship; three from the Bob and Becky Horn Family Awards; two from Hanhart Inc. and Timothy and Karen Stokey Family Scholarships; and one from the Terry and Virginia Hiller Memorial Scholarship.

Since inception the club has awarded more than $225,000 to provide financial assistance to Tuscarawas County students attending the Ohio State University.

The 2021 recipients of the Alumni Club Endowment awards are as follows:

Karina Argento of Dover High School, majoring in sports industry; Hayes Johnson of Strasburg-Franklin High School, majoring in biology; Anne Jones of Dover High School, majoring in chemistry; Kobe Lower of Newcomerstown High School, majoring in biology; and Charles Watters of Claymont High School, majoring in aerospace engineering.

The Demuth recipients are as follows:

Grace Gao of New Philadelphia High School, majoring in operations and environment, economy, development and sustainability; Andrew Maurer of New Philadelphia High School, majoring in actuarial science; Sebastian Morales of New Philadelphia High School, undecided major; Brooklyn Poland of Claymont High School, majoring in sports industry; and Nathan Ravine of Dover High School, majoring in nursing.

The Horn recipients are as follows:

Eddie Bautista-Garcia of Dover High School, majoring in English; Theron Edie of Dover High School, majoring in aerospace engineering; and Carlos Fernandez of Dover High School, majoring in computer science and engineering.

The Hanhart recipients are as follows:

Emma Leggett of Claymont High School, majoring in animal sciences, and Harmony Rose of OSU - ATI (renewal), majoring in animal sciences.

The Stokey recipients are as follows:

Mason Bell of OSU (renewal), majoring in pharmaceutical sciences, and Grace Rivera of Dover High School, majoring in neuroscience.

The Hiller recipient is as follows:

Landon Beckley of Indian Valley High School, majoring in mechanical engineering.

The alumni club also announced it will expand the scholarship program for next year by offering the opportunity to apply for the Tuscarawas Endowment scholarships to all Ohio State University undergraduates from Tuscarawas County. Online applications will be available from October to February 2022 through the OSU Student Financial Aid Department using the new ScholarshipUniverse platform.
