Buckeye Career Center is adding welding technologies to its list of in-demand adult education courses and allowing prospective students to learn more about adult programs at an open house on June 11 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at Buckeye Career Center.

Frank Polen, Buckeye Career Center director of adult education, curriculum and instruction, believes the full-time welding technologies program will help both area companies and local residents.

“During recent visits to many of our local manufacturing-based companies, we heard of one common theme, and that was the need for more certified welders,” Polen said. “With the addition of an adult education welding technologies program, we hope to become the premier training center for years to come as participants will have the opportunity to gain AWS certifications.”

Students will be eligible for financial aid, and part-time welding courses will be available for those seeking specific credentials including GMAW, SMAW, FCAW and GTAW.

“We feel that whether it be a part-time noncredential, part-time credential or full-time program, we are prepared to help meet the needs of an in-demand field,” Polen said.

At the open house, potential students can learn more about welding technologies and other full-time programs including cosmetology; dental assisting; heating, ventilating, air-conditioning and refrigeration; heavy equipment/CLD A operator; medical assisting; medical office and billing specialist; Law Enforcement Training Academy; and utility lineworker.

Cosmetology is a two-year program with summers off while the other full-time offerings take nine months to complete.

BCC invites recent high school graduates, adults of all ages wanting to start a new career or even adults hoping to learn additional skills to attend. Admissions representatives also will be there to discuss financial aid and part-time courses.

The $50 registration fee for adult education classes will be waived for any prospective student who registers for classes the night of the open house.
