The West Holmes FFA continues a very rapid schedule of activities as they move from fall into the winter season.

The upcoming agenda includes a fall trap shoot, the Animal Welfare finals, State Job Interview prelims, Greenhand and Chapter Degree Ceremony, and district and sub-district parliamentary.

However, the focal point will be All-In Week at West Holmes High School, where they will create sharing opportunities about FFA life to the entire school through educational presentations and events that will include the talents of many community adults.

“The juniors, seniors and officers have been working hard to schedule presenters for the week,” FFA advisor Jaime Chenevey said. “This is a great opportunity to learn more about our school, careers, community and the teachers in the building. We will also have a guest speaker, Dave Kahoot, who will present the message, ‘Talk Is Cheap, the Message Is Not,’ on Monday to kick off the week.”

The upcoming Greenhand Initiation and Chapter Degree Ceremony will have Aubrey Schwartz, state FFA president, in class all day for an officer visit and as a guest speaker for the ceremonies.

As far as what has taken place, FFA reporter Derek Miller said they had a busy schedule including attending the National FFA Convention.

“We had lots of great experiences at National FFA Convention,” Miller said. “We toured Busch Stadium, Grant’s Farm, the St. Louis Arch, the Archer-Daniels Midland Company and the University of Illinois Meat Science Department. We also enjoyed Edison’s Fun Center and a dinner boat cruise and had the opportunity to attend convention sessions and the career show/shopping mall.”

He gave congratulations to the FFA’s four American Degree recipients: Jayme Pennell, Clay Shepler, Rebecca Sprang and Addison Yates.

The annual WHHS FFA fruit sale is underway, with all fruit set to be delivered to the fairgrounds on Dec. 2, and all money is due by Dec. 14.

Group members also attended Leadership Night at Wellington High School on Nov. 8. The event featured a workshop with state officers, activities and plenty of food.
