The Tuscarawas County Public Library System will offer free computer or software training classes taught by staff this summer.

“This summer we will feature three classes with the beginner computer user in mind,” director Michelle McMorrow Ramsell said.

Upcoming classes include Computers for Beginners on June 12 at 10 a.m. at KSU Tuscarawas Academic Learning Commons, 330 University Drive NW, New Philadelphia; Microsoft Word for Beginners on June 20 at 10 a.m. at Ohio Means Jobs Tuscarawas County, 1260 Monroe St. NW #35, New Philadelphia; and Computer Basics: Organizing Computer Files on July 23 at 10 a.m. at KSU Tuscarawas Academic Learning Commons, 330 University Drive NW, New Philadelphia.

Emerging technology associate Virginia Wright said people who are unable to attend an in-person class have the option to take self-guided courses online through the library’s Lynda.com database, free of charge with their library card.

“Lynda.com has a wide variety of self-paced classes from computer basics to software courses,” Wright said. “There are also 50 different learning paths to help users stay ahead in their current job or change careers.”

In addition to technology classes, the library offers one-on-one training opportunities. Those with specific questions about accessing and downloading the library’s free digital resources — eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, music, TV shows and comics — can call to schedule an appointment with staff at any of their five locations. They will walk the customers through the process or troubleshoot a problem that they may be having.

Individuals who are eager to learn about the library system’s MakerSpace equipment — 3-D printer, Cricut machine, button maker and a sewing machine — can call one of the county library’s branches to schedule an appointment. Call the Bolivar branch at 330-874-2720, Strasburg branch at 330-878-5711, Sugarcreek branch at 330-852-2813 or Tuscarawas branch at 740-922-2748.

The library’s technology classes are a free library service, but space is limited. To register for a class, to schedule a one-on-one appointment or for more details, visit www.tusclibrary.org or call 330-364-4474.
