Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award winners announced

Welty Middle School announced the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award winners. The award, named for Ohio native and two-time Heisman trophy winner Archie Griffin, is presented each year to two eighth-grade students, one male and one female, who have been outstanding in their efforts to promote sportsmanship in their school and community.
A few of the qualities used to recognize these two students are integrity, leadership, a positive attitude, academic discipline, humility and volunteerism. This award is the highest honor a student-athlete can achieve from Welty Middle School.
This year’s female recipient is Wendy Resendiz-Sanchez. She is the daughter of Felipe Resendiz and Erika Sanchez. She participated in cheerleading and track in both seventh and eighth grade. She enjoys helping out with the Quaker cheerleading program and plans to continue her cheerleading and track career in high school.
This year’s male recipient is Alec Adelman. He is the son of Julie and Daryl Adelman. He plays soccer, football, track, basketball and baseball. He qualified for the state track meet in the 800-meter run and the 4-by-400 relay this year. He plans to continue playing multiple sports in high school. He is a member of the NJHS and is a part of the WeCan community service club.
