Any parents with children attending East Holmes Schools for the first time and who have not registered them should do so as soon as possible.

                        

School will be in session for the first full day on Tuesday, Aug. 20. Any parents with children attending East Holmes Schools for the first time and who have not registered them should do so as soon as possible.

Buildings are open between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. High school or middle school students should register at Hiland High School. Flat Ridge students should register at Wise Elementary. All other East Holmes elementary students should register at the appropriate building. You will need your child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency to register.

Any questions should be directed to the elementary building nearest your home or Hiland High School if applicable. East Holmes Schools is using a notification system to inform parents of school closings, emergencies and events. If you have not previously completed an ALERTNOW form, these are available from the secretary at your school. This will allow you to receive a telephone, text message or email notice.

Details will be provided to parents by the individual building principals concerning schedules and teacher assignments.

Kindergarten students will be picked up and returned home on the regular bus routes beginning as follows: Berlin and Chestnut Ridge, every day kindergarten only; Walnut Creek and Winesburg on Wednesday, Aug. 21; Flat Ridge and Chestnut Ridge on Thursday, Aug. 22; and Mt. Hope on Friday, Aug. 23.

School opening and closing times are set according to the time schedule below:

—Berlin Elementary from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

—Chestnut Ridge Elementary from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

—Flat Ridge Elementary from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

—Hiland High and Middle School from 7:45 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.

—Mt. Hope Elementary from 7:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

—Walnut Creek Elementary from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

—Winesburg Elementary from 7:40 a.m. to 2:10 p.m.

—Wise Elementary from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Lunch prices for the 2019-20 school year are $2.75 per meal for elementary students and $3.10 per meal for students attending Hiland High and Middle School. Milk prices are 50 cents per carton.

The Breakfast Program is available at all East Holmes Local Schools for the 2019-20 school year. The cost of breakfast will be $1.50 for students.

The 2019-20 school calendar includes 180 days in which school is open for instruction. There will be no school on Sept. 2 (Labor Day). A professional in-service day is planned for Oct. 18, and school is not in session on that day.

Parent-teacher conferences will be held Oct. 24 and 29 (evening k-12) and Nov. 1 (day).

Elementary students and Hiland seventh and eighth grade will not attend school Nov. 1.

There will be no school Nov. 28 and 29 and Dec. 2 for Thanksgiving.

Christmas break is scheduled for Dec. 23 through Jan. 3 with classes back in session on Jan. 6.

There will be no school on Jan. 20 (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day).

A professional in-service day is scheduled for Feb. 17, and school is not in session on that day.

Spring break is scheduled for March 23-27. There will be no school on April 10 for Good Friday.

The last day of school for students for the 2019-20 school year is May 28.

Open house schedules are as follows: Berlin on Aug. 15 from 5-6:30 p.m., Walnut Creek on Aug. 15 from 7-8 p.m., Chestnut Ridge on Aug. 19 from 1-3 p.m., Flat Ridge on Aug. 16 from 2:30-5 p.m., Hiland on Aug. 16 from 6-7 p.m., Mt. Hope on Aug. 19 from 1-3 p.m., Winesburg on Aug. 15 from 4-5:30 p.m. and Wise on Aug. 16 from 2:30-5 p.m.
