The Newcomerstown Scholarship Foundation in conjunction with the Newcomerstown Exempted Village Schools awarded 52 scholarships totaling $239,000 to this year’s high school seniors and graduated students attending a post-secondary institution.

High school seniors were recognized at the Senior Awards Assembly on May 20. Graduate students received notice of their awards the week of June 27.

Seniors received from $3,000-$8,000 for their scholarships, and all graduate students received $4,000. Any graduate of Newcomerstown High School is eligible to apply for scholarships for up to five years as long as they meet the requirements.

The Newcomerstown Scholarship Foundation was started in 1965 by a group of businessmen. It has grown as Newcomerstown citizens have donated and bequeathed money to the foundation. Assets now exceed $4 million. Only the interest accumulated each year from investments is awarded. Since 2008 Newcomerstown graduates have received $1,877,825.

The Senior Awards are based on GPA and information provided in the application. Every student who applies and has been accepted by a post-secondary institution receives a scholarship.
