Garaway Board of Education approves contracts
The Garaway Board of Education issued one-year certified contracts to Morgan Metzger, second grade teacher at Ragersville Elementary, and Lisa Sommers, speech language pathologist for the Garaway Local School District, during the regular meeting held June 26.
In another matter the board authorized the transfer of $3.5 million from the general fund into the Capital Projects Fund.
“We can only have a certain carryover balance in the general fund, and these funds are to be used for projects in the district,” Treasurer Sheryl Hardesty said.
The board also did the following:
—Approved updates to the Garaway employee handbook for personnel, programs and procedures pertaining to unpaid leaves of absence.
—Passed a resolution approving a contract for services provided by the East Central Ohio Education Service Center at a cost of $469,146, which includes technology, preschool services, special education, EMIS services and training, to name a few of the services.
—Entered into a contract for website hosting at a cost of $5,255.
—Asked for input on federal programs. Residents are asked to direct any questions to Curtis Fisher, federal funds coordinator, at 330-852-2421.
—Agreed to dispose of five Bernett 680 sewing machines and one RCA television model 27628 in the most efficient manner.
—Gave approval for the Ohio School Plan for property, liability, vehicle coverage, pollution and cyber insurance at a cost of $72,243 annually.
—Approved breakfast and lunch prices for the 2025-26 school year. Breakfast is $2 for all grades. Lunch for Garaway seventh grade through 12th grade is $3.50, elementary students are $3.25, and adults are $2.50 for breakfast and $4.75 for lunch.
—Approved Spanish I/II/III instruction through the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center at a cost of $24,000.
—Approved the Garaway seventh grade through 12th grade student/parent handbook and discipline letters for the 2025-26 school year.
—Gave approval to the Dundee Elementary PTO to construct and donate a 32-by-24-foot pavilion on district property near the Dundee baseball field.
—Approved Ohio Floor Company to clean and refinish the high school gym floor at a cost of $5,100.
—Approved Bethany Stein for volunteer elementary summer band camp.
The next meeting will be July 21 at 6 p.m. in the high school library at 146 Dover Road NW in Sugarcreek.
