Even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club again is saluting students from Dover, New Philadelphia and Tuscarawas Central Catholic high schools who earned a 4.0 GPA for the 2019-20 academic year.

The club normally would host its 28th annual Scholar Awards Dinner near the end of the month of May to formally recognize the students and their families.

But with the COVID-19 social distancing restrictions in place, the banquet this year has been canceled. All of the students who are being honored will receive their recognition gifts. Students who have achieved a 4.0 GPA for one year receive a certificate, two years earns a gift of a specially designed pen, three years includes a thermos and four years receives a personal portfolio gift.

“While the club prefers hosting the Scholar Awards Dinner and honoring these outstanding students and their families at a formal reception, we do understand the important restrictions we are all adhering to right now,” said Brenda Cameron, president of the Dover-New Philadelphia Kiwanis Club. “This by no means diminishes the great achievements of these students, and we again feel privileged to recognize the best and brightest students in our community.”
