New hires and contracts approved at Strasburg
Elementary Principal Shelia Doerschuk presented the first Tiger Way Award to Jessica Edwards, Carrie Miller and Ashley Bryant, members of the Strasburg Parent Teacher Group, during the Strasburg Board of Education meeting on Feb. 21.
The board also did the following:
—Approved the 2024-25 school calendar: Aug. 20, first day for students; Nov. 27-29, Thanksgiving break; Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, winter break; March 24-28, spring break; May 18, graduation; and May 30, last day for students.
—Employed Steve Hoaglan as a substitute teacher and Mary Burkhart as a substitute classified aide for the 2023-24 school year.
—Learned the district is using five bays to house the buses/vans at the village/school garage on Railroad Avenue.
—Gave approval to Tonya Ronald, Krissie Richards, Jordan Morehart, Sarah Henry and Caroline Gatta for after-school intervention at a rate of $24 per hour. Intervention is held Monday and Wednesday through March 20 from 3:15-4:45 p.m.
—Issued one-year supplemental coaching contracts to Frank Kruger, middle school boys track; Jessica Barkley, middle school girls track; Peyton Speicher, Ed Becker and Brooke Spinell, all assistant high school track; Ron Hurst, head boys and girls track; and Hailey Reiger, softball volunteer assistant.
—Approved membership between the district and Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2024-25 school year.
—Gave approval to land contracts between Myers Brother Farm and Terry and Sherry Garber to farm 18.46 acres of land owned by the school district from Jan. 1, 2024, to Dec. 31, 2024.
Other information
The board recognized February Student of the Month recipients Nathaniel Garlinger, high school; Jillian Sensel, middle school; and Harper Hershberger, elementary. All received plaques from the district and Lions Club.
Board member Jordan Boggs said the father daughter dance, held recently, was fun and a big success. It was sponsored by the freshman class.
The annual Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet was attended by over 160. Board member Diana Flickinger said it was a great weekend to be a Tiger. She also thanked Athletic Director Gary and Heather Spinell for planning the event.
The next meeting will be held March 20 at 6:30 p.m. in the administration building at 140 N. Bodmer Ave.
