Area high school students considering or wanting to learn more about careers in health care can participate in a free hands-on program hosted over the next few months at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital.

The first Union Hospital TECH Career Program for 2020 will be held Saturday, Jan. 11 from 8:45 a.m. to noon at the hospital, where students will be briefed about UH TECH, learn about nursing and hear from some area physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.

UH TECH Career Program is held once a month on Saturday mornings through April. The next sessions are scheduled Feb. 8, March 14 and April 11.

UH TECH stands for “Teens Exploring Careers in Healthcare” and has inspired hundreds of area high school students to pursue a career in health care. Each UH TECH Career Camp session takes students to departments of the hospital to learn from the professionals about their job, the technology they use and the education needed to enter the field.

The program is completely free for high school students.

For questions and/or to register, call or text 330-260-4770 or send an email to hollyh@unionhospital.org. Students should register for each event they are interested in attending.

After the final Career Camp event, graduating seniors are invited to apply for a $1,000 UH TECH Scholarship award, given annually to a student who plans to continue his or her education after high school in a health-care field.

Information also will be available on the UH TECH Facebook page at www.facebook.com/UHTECHcareerprogram and on the hospital’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
