Pomerene Hospital announced the winner of the Pomerene Health Foundation Scholarship, awarded annually to the child of a Pomerene employee who is pursuing a career in the healthcare field. This year the scholarship committee selected Joscelin Varga as the recipient of the $4,000 one-time scholarship.

The scholarship committee, comprised of Tia Cernava, Jamie Tippet and Katie Wright, had the task of reviewing five applications. The application criteria included academic excellence, extracurricular activities, community involvement, financial need and completeness of the application.

Varga, the daughter of Ashley Varga, a registered nurse at Pomerene Hospital, emerged as the candidate. She graduated from Hiland High School with a GPA of 3.86 and ranked 17th in her class. She has been accepted into Xavier University, where she will major in nursing.

In addition to her academic achievements, Varga has demonstrated commitment and involvement in various activities. She has been a member of the 4-H Barnyard Buddies for the past 10 years, participating in market rabbit and goat projects. She also excelled in athletics, earning varsity letters in volleyball for two years and participating in varsity softball. She has consistently been on the principal’s list and honor roll throughout her high school career. Furthermore, Varga balances her busy schedule with a part-time job at Bag’s Sports Pub.

Pomerene Hospital congratulates Varga on her accomplishments and wishes her the best in her future endeavors in the medical field.
