The Tuscarawas County board of health unanimously voted to discontinue services of the Alcohol and Addiction Program at its regularly scheduled board of health meeting on Sept. 25.

The last day of operation for the program will be Oct. 31. The resolution cited staffing vacancies and ongoing struggles financially as the reasons for the program closure.

To ensure minimal disruption to its clients, TCHD is working with the ADAMHS board of Tuscarawas County and other local behavioral-health providers to ensure continuity of care. TCHD is committed to a smooth and complete transition of its clients before Oct. 31.

“Unexpected staffing losses and ongoing financial difficulties are beyond TCHD’s current capacity to absorb,” health commissioner Katie Seward said. “I am proud of the work that has been done for many years by the Alcohol and Addiction Program. TCHD has been blessed with the most caring and dedicated staff. They are truly the heart of this program.”

The current counseling staff of five will be assisted in securing positions with other local agencies or transitioning to their next choice of employment.

TCHD currently has approximately 60 clients enrolled in its behavioral-health program but is certain all clients will continue to be served by other local behavioral-health programs.
