The Community Business Association of Northern Tuscarawas County invites the public to shop local vendors and have a pasta buffet at the Wilkshire Event Center on Dec. 10 from 2-7 p.m. at Shop A Latte.

“This is our first-ever Small Business Saturday event,” said Barbara Scott, who is the CBA co-president with her husband Mark. “We are hoping it is the first of many to come.”

The goal of the event is two-fold. A portion of the proceeds from the pasta dinner will be donated to the Bolivar Food Pantry at the Bolivar United Methodist Church.

“According to the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank, which serves Tuscarawas County, food insecurity is on the rise,” Scott said. “The need for assistance has increased by as much as to 14%, and 25% of those needing food have not needed assistance in the past. At the same time, the availability of food we can access from the Akron Canton Regional Foodbank is down by 27%.”

The second aim of the event is to support local businesses, according to Scott. “We want to bring the community together to shop locally on Small Business Saturday and to make a difference in the lives of others by donating to the food pantry.”

Tickets for the pasta buffet, which will be catered by Kathy Stotzer, are $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under.

“The Zoar Fire Department is, of course, no longer able to hold their spaghetti dinners, and so many people in the community were upset by that,” Scott said. “So we decided to add a pasta dinner to the event.”

The schedule for the day is as follows:

—Free cocoa, coffee and a cookie bar while supplies last, compliments of the Bolivar McDonald’s, Bolivar Giant Eagle and the CBA, from 2-4 p.m.

—Small business sales from area vendors including T-shirts and apparel and items from the Zoar Store from 2-7 p.m. Raffle tickets will be available for gift baskets, and a 50/50 drawing will be held during this time. The winner need not be present.

—Pasta buffet open with carryout available from 4-7 p.m.

Some space is still available for vendors. All local, small businesses are welcome to sell items or promote their services.

“There is no charge for vendors, but as we are a nonprofit association, we will gratefully accept donations,” Scott said.

Vendors wishing to reserve a table should call Scott at 330-874-4149 or email readtosucceed@yahoo.com.

Tickets for the benefit dinner can be purchased at the Zoar Market on state Route 212, through any CBA member or at www.cbatv.biz. All those who purchase tickets will be entered to win a $50 gift certificate to the new Wilkshire Miniature Golf, opening in spring directly behind the Wilkshire Event Center.

Those who cannot attend the event but wish to help can send donations to the Bolivar Food Pantry, c/o the Bolivar United Methodist Church, 256 Poplar St., Bolivar, OH 44612.

Scott expressed gratitude for donations made by local companies toward the event. Monetary donations and gifts baskets for the raffle have been donated by the following: Mary Locy-Cutler Real Estate, Commercial & Savings Bank, Ragon House, Lock 7 Coffee House, Lockport Brewery, 3 Roses Winery, 3 Trees Chalet, Zoar Market, Donnie’s Tavern, Scott Enterprises, R U Stylin’, Canton South Floral Shop, Huntington Bank and the Community Business Association.

The CBA was established in 1991 to promote and support the business, residential and educational community in the Bolivar, Wilkshire Hills and Zoar area, as well as throughout Tuscarawas County. Annual membership dues are $30, and meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month from 7:30-8:30 a.m. in the Wilkshire Hills Sleep Inn conference room.

The event center is located at 474 Jeanne Ann Lane in Bolivar.
