The East Central Ohio Educational Service Center presented the Overcoming Obstacles Awards and the Excellence in Community Inclusion Award at Dover High School’s auditorium on Thursday, April 22.

The Overcoming Obstacles Awards started in 2015 and are presented to honor one student from each school district in Tuscarawas County for their dedication and perseverance in overcoming obstacles to achieve success in school.

This year’s award winners were Marcus Angle from Buckeye Career Center, Ray Anderson from Claymont, Haylee Myers from Conotton Valley, Kensington Fisher from Dover, Derek Mackey from Garaway, Jessica Robinson from Indian Valley, Kody Ames from New Philadelphia, John Allen Rose from Newcomerstown and Josh Hampton from Tuscarawas Valley.

Each student received a plaque commemorating the achievement and had a video presented about them that included peers and teachers discussing how they have overcome obstacles and achieved greatness through adversity. Holly Hall from State Support Team Region 12 also presented each student with a bag and certificate.

The Excellence in Community Inclusion Award also was presented to honor a community partner for visionary practice in terms of community inclusion for individuals with developmental disabilities in Tuscarawas County. This year’s award went to Buehler’s Fresh Foods of Dover and New Philadelphia.
