United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties announced the launch of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Holmes County. This program delivers free books to children birth to age 5 each month through the mail. Each book is hand-selected, age-appropriate and high-quality.

UWWH has partnered with the Governors Imagination Library to expand the DPIL into Holmes County. The cost is approximately $25 per child. The State of Ohio is paying 50 percent of the cost; UWWH is covering the rest.

“We are very pleased and excited to be partnering with [Ohio First Lady] Fran Dewine and her team on this very special opportunity for Holmes County,” said Katie Koglman, UWWH executive director. “We so strongly believe that getting books into the hands of children at a young age prepares them for kindergarten, increases their vocabulary and expands their reading-comprehension skills. That is exactly what Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library works to do with this program, so it is a very fitting partnership.”

The Imagination Library is an early-childhood book-gifting program in the United States. It sends books to children each month through the mail, regardless of family income. The focal point is to get books into the hands of children.

The library is comprised of a 60-book collection. The first book received in the program is “The Little Engine That Could” by Watty Piper, and the final book received is “Look Out Kindergarten Here I Come!” by Nancy Carlson. Children graduate from the program at age 5 as they prepare for the next step on their journey into grade school.

Registration for the program is at www.imaginationlibrary.com/usa/affiliate/OHHOLMES/ or call UWWH at 330-264-5576.
