The Holmes County General Health District is sponsoring tai chi classes for better balance, beginning Feb. 3. The classes are free, but you must register with the Health District by calling 330-674-5035.

Studies show practicing tai chi may improve balance; increase strength, functional mobility and flexibility; and reduce fall rates. There will be a free informational open house, hosted by the Health District’s Falls Prevention program, on Feb. 13 from 10-10:30 a.m. at Berlin Mennonite Church, 4718 U.S. 62, Berlin.

At the Darb Snyder Senior Center in Millersburg, classes will be held on Mondays from Feb. 3 through April 27. Advanced classes are from 9:30-10:15 a.m. with beginning classes from 10:30-11:30 a.m. You must have participated in at least two beginning classes to register for the advanced sessions. Instructor is Kerry MacQueen.

On Tuesdays from 5-6 p.m., beginning classes will be held from Feb. 4 through April 21 at the Prairie Township Library in Holmesville. Instructor is Beth Crone.

Classes also will be held from March 5 through May 28 at Berlin Mennonite Church in Berlin with instructor Cheryl Seabright. Advanced classes are from 9:30-10:15 a.m. with beginning classes from 10:30-11:30 a.m. You must have participated in at least two beginning classes to register for the advanced sessions.
