United Way of Tuscarawas County is now accepting Volunteer Income Tax Assistance participants.

United Way of Tuscarawas County is partnering with United Way of Greater Stark County and the DoverPhila Federal Credit Union to bring the program to the community.

“We are grateful for the partnership with DoverPhila Federal Credit Union for providing the space and equipment needed for the VITA program,” said Robin Waltz, United Way of Tuscarawas County president.

VITA assists individuals and families who have an income of $60,000 or less by filing their taxes for free. Clients filing with direct deposit can typically expect a refund in 14-21 days.

The IRS-certified VITA volunteers work with clients to identify tax credits that are often overlooked while helping people avoid the high cost of paid preparers and predatory lenders with filing fees typically costing around $270 each.

“We are proud to continue to offer this valuable service to Tuscarawas County,” said Jack Dooling, VITA site coordinator. “VITA helps taxpayers in our community save a substantial amount of money, bringing more money back into local businesses and stimulating the economy.”

Tuscarawas County drop-off sites are at the DoverPhila Federal Credit Union locations at Fillmore Avenue, Dover and Newcomerstown.

In-person appointments will not be available. Drop-off appointments must be scheduled in advance by visiting www.tuscunitedway.org or calling 330-994-8482 and requesting the Dover or Newcomerstown locations.
