Green eighth-graders win volleyball title
The Green eighth-grade team won the WCAL volleyball championship. The champions included, front left, McKenna Shanklin, Shayna Lowe, Gabby Cannon, Glystin Burnett, Abby Besancon, Cadence Amstutz and Ava Besanson; back, coach Tara Schaffter, Alexis Beard, Angelina Yates, Breanne Fatzinger, Madelyn Lengacher, Naomi Keib, Taylor Blankenship, Audrey Sidle and Vea Baney.
The Green Middle School eighth-grade volleyball team claimed the Wayne County Athletic League title during tournament play on Oct. 12 at John R Lea Middle School.
The team defeated Northwestern 25-15, 25-10 in the first round; Dalton 25-16, 25-21 in the semifinals; and the host Golden Bears in the finals 25-14, 25-20.
The Smithies finished the year 14-0 in the WCAL and had a 14-1 overall record for the regular season.
